Útidúr

Útidúr (pronounced: ooh! – detour) is a relatively dirty dozen that has been creating a buzz like an army of bumblebees with their spicy concoction of joyous and ambitious indie-pop with a dramatic streak. Although this charismatic crew is quite (midnight) sunny in attitude they also know their way through darker waters. Trace elements of Angelo Badalamenti, Beirut, Calexico and Ennio Morricone can also be found in their system so fans of these should expose themselves to Útidúr in any way they deem appropriate.

Útidúr’s debut album ‘This Mess We’ve Made’ is out now and was recorded at the Sigur Rós recording studio ‘Sundlaugin’ in the summer of 2010. The album is big in sound, featuring over 20 musicians, and you can expect a spacious blend of bipolar drama and sofa-sinking mellowness, all soaked in hook-laden pop sensibility.

The Dandelion Seeds

Formerly known as Kid Twist, the Dandelion Seeds got together in the summer of 2010. Their sound derives mostly from the late 60′s, carrying on from the British Invasion with loads of fuzz, walls of noise and feedback. Anything really, from sweet pop up to loud psychedelia.

Monterey

Monterey is a new band from Reykjavik. The members are known for great live performances with the band Hljómsveitin Ég, another Reykjavik act, and their music is a sort of vintage pop rock, with lots of emotions and good feel. Monterey will release their debut album, Time Passing Time, this summer and hopefully play a lot around Iceland in the following months

Tilbury

Tilbury was founded by the drummer Thormodur Dagsson (Skakkamanage, Jeff Who?, Hudson Wayne) back in the summer of 2010. It was originally a solo project by the name of Formadur Dagsbrunar but quickly evolved when in a search for a band to record the debut album to the band Tilbury.

Tilbury plays dramatic folk pop led by synthesizers by Kristinn Evertsson (Valdimar) and sixties guitar sound by Orn Eldjarn (Brother Grass). Gudmundur Oskar (Hjaltalin) decorates the sound with his French-ish baselines and drummer Magnus Trygvason Eliasen (Sin Fang, Amiina, Moses Hightower) binds it all together with his dynamic drumming.

Tilbury’s debut album, Exorcise, was released earlier this month on Record Records.

Man Made (UK)

Singer songwriter Nile Marr has been performing as Man Made since he was 16. The past 12 months have been his busiest to date.

In 2009 Man Made started to make real progress in the industry. Nile picked up the award for Best Male Artist from US skateboarding company Element. He then went on to play with the likes of Broken Social Scene and shortly following that he played with Bright Eyes.

Performing at last year’s Tramlines, proved to be the beginning of Man Made heading down the right road. This was then confirmed after the self-titled debut EP was well received across the UK and overseas.

Laura J Martin hails from the suburbs of Liverpool with influences that ricochet between Serge Gainsbourg, Wu Tang Clan, David Bowie and Herbie Mann. Armed with a flute ready for wrangling, mandolin and a loop station, she sings over her loops and beats, songs inspired by subject matter as disparate as Japanese folklore to real life sentiments and characters.

Snorri Helgason

Snorri Helgason has been busy this past year, playing around Europe on every possible occasion. In 2011 he released an album in Iceland called Winter Sun. With him performing live is Mr. Silla (of múm and Mr. Silla) and Guðmundur Óskar (of Hjaltalín and Borko).
